About Pfotentour

A motorhome with your dog,
the way it should be.

Pfotentour is the platform for everyone who wants to travel by motorhome with their dog - without compromising. We bring people looking for a dog-friendly motorhome together with hosts who offer exactly that: vehicles with well-thought-out space for the four-legged traveller, clear rules, and a booking process that is digital, transparent and fair from the first search to the return.

We don't build motorhomes, and we don't own every vehicle you find here. Pfotentour is a marketplace: hosts from across Europe list their dog-friendly motorhomes with us; renters search, compare, book and pay - all in one place, with one shared standard for what a motorhome with a dog on board really needs.

Behind it stands a simple promise: whether you're travelling with your dog in a motorhome for the first time or have been dreaming about it for years - here you won't find just any vehicle, but one chosen with the four-legged traveller in mind from the start. From the first click in the search to the signed booking confirmation, everything stays digitally traceable, without a single phone call.

Our story

It all started with a simple question.
Why is a motorhome with a dog still the exception?

Anyone who has tried to rent a motorhome with a large dog knows the problem: most traditional rental companies treat dogs as a special case. A surcharge form here, a note saying “small dogs only” there - and in the end the dog is squeezed onto the passenger seat or wedged between backpacks in the footwell. Yet the longing for a road trip with a dog is anything but a niche - for very many owners, the dog is the main reason a motorhome is considered at all. Camping in a tent with a dog is weather-dependent and uncomfortable, a dog-friendly hotel room is often hard to find or expensive, and a holiday flat usually requires special permission. The motorhome, on the other hand, offers exactly what a dog needs on holiday: a fixed retreat that travels along, wherever the journey goes.

The idea for Pfotentour wasn't born on a drawing board but in a traditional motorhome rental business - specifically at Edmond Osmani motorhome rental, based in Karlsruhe. If you rent out motorhomes to families, couples and dog owners for years, you learn exactly which questions are guaranteed to come up on the phone: Is the vehicle dog-friendly? Where should the dog sit while driving? What happens if it scratches the upholstery? And what's the surcharge for the fourth passenger travelling on four legs instead of two? From precisely these recurring conversations grew the conviction that this deserves a better answer than a checkbox in a booking form.

Instead of a single fleet with a few dog-friendly exceptions, the idea of a platform emerged: a place where dog-friendly motorhomes from different hosts are bundled, comparable and easy to book - curated by a clear standard rather than by chance. Step by step, the traditional rental in Karlsruhe became Pfotentour: a marketplace that combines day-to-day rental experience with the possibilities of a modern booking flow - search, calendar, contract, payment and invoice all digital, while the eye for what a motorhome with a dog on board really needs comes from practice.

Much of what defines Pfotentour today comes directly from that daily rental routine: knowing where a vehicle actually causes friction at a handover with a dog, which questions come up most often at the return, and what fair handling of deposits and minor damage should feel like - from both sides' perspective. That experience has flowed into every corner of the platform, from the wording of the rental contract to the question of which search filters genuinely help and which only confuse.

What began in Karlsruhe is no longer tied to a single place: Pfotentour is open to hosts across Europe. Every vehicle is handed over directly at its host's location - you'll find the pickup location in the listing and can filter for it in the search. Whether Black Forest, the Alps or the Baltic Sea: the basic idea stays the same - a handover location close to nature and your route, so the motorhome is surrounded by greenery on day one and the first walk with the dog doesn't have to wait.

Out of this experience, Pfotentour was born: with the goal of turning camping with a dog from a special case into the standard. Not because the topic needed reinventing, but because it should finally be treated the way it has long been for so many travellers - as a completely normal, natural part of travel planning. From a single rental business determined to do better for dog owners, a network of multiple hosts has gradually grown, all committed to the same idea: a motorhome with a dog on board shouldn't feel like a compromise, but like the most obvious choice.

What we are

A platform,
not an off-the-shelf rental.

Pfotentour works as a marketplace, not as a traditional rental company with a single fleet. Hosts from across Europe - from motorhome professionals to private owners with a single well-kept vehicle - list their dog-friendly motorhomes with us. Each host sets their own prices, seasons, deposit and extras - which is why they differ from vehicle to vehicle, and you always see the exact price for your dates right in the listing. In return, we provide the complete digital infrastructure around it: the search with filters for dates, number of people and number of pets, the booking calendar with up-to-date availability, secure payment processing, the digital rental contract signed right in the browser, and automatic invoicing after booking.

For renters this means: one single place where dog-friendly motorhomes from different hosts stand comparably side by side, with the same reliable processes for booking, contract and payment - no matter which host the vehicle belongs to. No back-and-forth with individual owners, no cash deposit in the yard, no handwritten contracts that get misplaced later. Instead, a booking process that is traceable and digitally documented from the first search to the return.

For hosts it means: reach, without having to build your own booking site, payment system or contract template. If you have a motorhome that meets our standard of dog-friendliness, you can list it on Pfotentour, set prices and seasons yourself, offer extras - and let us take care of marketing, payment processing and contract documentation. That leaves more time for what matters: keeping the vehicle in a condition where both renters and their dogs feel at home from the first minute.

New listings don't simply go live unchecked: before a vehicle appears in the search, we review the host's details so the standards we promise are actually met. That keeps Pfotentour from being a loose marketplace where anything ends up - it stays a curated selection where you can rely on the listing's description, from the number of beds to whether there really is a dog garage. The same applies to the hosts themselves: before payouts can flow, they go through identity verification and set up their payout details, so every booking is cleanly attributed to a real host. For you as a renter, that means an extra layer of security in the background - you're not booking from an anonymous ad, but from a host who verified themselves with the platform before their vehicle even became visible.

For renters

How simple
your booking works.

From the first search to the key handover, the path on Pfotentour is deliberately short. Five steps take you from wanting a road trip with your dog to a signed rental contract - completely online, traceable at any time, and without surprises at pickup.

1
Search with the filters that really matter

The search on Pfotentour is built for travelling with dogs from the ground up. You enter your travel dates, the number of people - and the number of pets coming along. Right in the results you see which motorhomes are available for exactly that combination, instead of clicking through a generic catalogue only to find out nothing is free for your dates anyway. In a few clicks you narrow the selection down to vehicles that genuinely fit your trip, instead of wading through dozens of offers that were never an option for a four-legged traveller.

2
Colour-coded calendar with seasonal prices

On the vehicle page, a colour-coded calendar shows you at a glance where you stand: green marks free days at the base price, blue marks free high-season dates at a higher price, red stands for already-booked periods. You also see the prices right in the calendar - including higher high-season rates, for example during summer holidays or around public holidays. So you know exactly what your dates cost before booking, without sending an enquiry and waiting for a reply. Especially for spontaneous long-weekend trips, that saves you days of back-and-forth messages.

3
Booking and digital payment

Once you've found the right dates, you confirm the booking directly online. Payment runs fully digitally via Stripe, by card or direct debit - no wiring money into the blue, no cash at the handover. You see transparently what is charged for the rental, for booked extras and for the deposit before you finally confirm. The confirmation reaches you immediately afterwards, together with all further steps up to pickup, so you always know what comes next.

4
Sign the rental contract digitally

Instead of a stack of paper on handover day, your rental contract is delivered digitally and you sign it comfortably on screen - with your own legally valid signature right in the application. All details about vehicle, dates, prices and deposit are already pre-filled; you only need to check and sign. The contract is done long before pickup, signed and available to you at any time - no hunting for a slip of paper in the glovebox of memory, no waiting for a scanned document by email.

5
Handover and your first trip together

Around 48 hours before departure, the agreed deposit is reserved on your card - not debited, just reserved, and released again after the vehicle is returned in proper condition. At the personal handover you get a briefing on the vehicle, including the dog garage where available. Your invoice is created automatically and is available digitally - for your own records, and for the case where your dog does claim a cushion or two along the way and you need proof of what was originally agreed.

For hosts

Earn with your
motorhome - we take care of the rest.

The host side of Pfotentour is deliberately lean, too. From listing to payout, everything runs through one dashboard that gives you an overview of prices, bookings and earnings at any time - without you having to handle payment processing, contract templates or invoicing yourself.

1
List your motorhome

You create a listing with photos, equipment details and a description of your motorhome - including everything that matters to travellers with dogs: flooring, an existing dog garage, space and equipment such as an outdoor shower. After a short review, your vehicle is visible to renters and findable via the search, without you having to run your own website or booking flow.

2
Set your own prices and high season

You set your base prices yourself and can store higher rates for high-season periods such as summer holidays or public holidays. The colour-coded calendar shows you at any time which dates are already booked and which are still free - so you stay in control of your own utilisation, instead of tracking enquiries in a paper calendar or reconciling double bookings by phone.

3
Offer extras

In addition to the base rent, you can store extras that renters can optionally add when booking - from additional equipment to services around the trip. Extras are automatically included in the renter's booking summary and invoice, without you having to recalculate them for every single booking or write a separate invoice by hand.

4
Booking overview and payout

In your booking overview you see all current and past bookings, the prices agreed in each case, and the payout status. Renters' payments run securely through the platform, and your payout follows the stored payout schedule - transparently traceable, without your own bookkeeping or chasing outstanding payments. You always know which booking is settled and which payout is still pending. Pfotentour takes over exactly the tasks that cost the most time in traditional rental life: price negotiations by phone, tracking open payments and writing individual invoices by hand. Meanwhile, you remain in charge of your own vehicle - which periods you rent out, at what price and with which extras is still entirely your decision.

Our centrepiece

The dog garage -
a fixed place instead of a compromise.

In very many motorhomes, the dog is essentially a guest who fits in somewhere: sometimes on the back seat, sometimes in the footwell, sometimes makeshift on a blanket in the luggage area behind the seats. That is exactly what we want to change with the dog-garage concept, firmly planned into many vehicles on Pfotentour: a dedicated, separated area in the vehicle intended for the dog from the start - not converted for it as an afterthought.

At its core, a dog garage is a permanently fitted area with its own resting place, usually with washable flooring and enough distance from the vehicle electrics and sharp edges. The dog travels secured while driving and doesn't have to balance on a seat or share space with the luggage. For owners, that means less stress on the road - no constant glancing between the road and the back seat to check whether the dog is lying safely.

The concept pays off beyond the drive, too: a washable floor forgives wet fur after a beach or forest walk, without a towel ritual every time before the dog is allowed back into the vehicle. And because the dog area is clearly separated from the living and sleeping areas, the rest of the motorhome stays pleasant even when the dog is properly wet or sandy. For us, that's not a luxury extra but what makes a truly dog-friendly motorhome: a fixed, well-thought-out place instead of a compromise renegotiated every evening.

For many dogs, a clearly defined area of their own is also more calming than a changing spot in the vehicle: their own blanket, the familiar smell and a fixed retreat help the dog relax faster in new places and after long driving days. At the handover, we're happy to show you how the dog garage is set up in the specific vehicle and which routines make cleaning easiest on the road.

Not every vehicle on Pfotentour has a dog garage in the strict sense - the equipment is the responsibility of each host, and you'll always find the exact details in the listing. But where a dog garage exists, it is exactly that: a standard feature, not an add-on you pay extra for.

Trust & safety

Clear rules,
before you set off.

On Pfotentour, the deposit isn't a cash amount negotiated under time pressure on handover day, but a fixed amount recorded in the rental contract in advance. Around 48 hours before the trip starts, this amount is reserved on your stored card - not debited immediately. After the vehicle is returned and briefly checked for damage, the reservation is released again. That protects both sides: hosts have reliable security in case of damage, and renters don't have to carry a large sum as an actual debit for days in advance.

Plans change - that's why Pfotentour uses a tiered cancellation policy instead of a rigid all-or-nothing clause. Cancel early and you get the full amount back; the closer the travel date, the more is retained according to the applicable tier - specifically tiered at 100, 50 and 0 percent refund. You see the exact deadlines and rates transparently before booking and again in the rental contract, so you know exactly where you stand if your travel plans do change.

In addition to the vehicle insurance that every motorhome on Pfotentour comes with, we point out the option of a motorhome travel insurance (RMV) for many bookings, which can offer additional protection for certain types of damage. Whether such additional cover makes sense for your trip depends on your individual travel profile - pointing it out is part of our commitment to having you as informed as possible before booking, instead of confronting you with the details only when damage occurs.

Payment itself is part of our safety promise, too: card data is processed not by us but by the specialised payment provider Stripe, which is subject to high security standards. Neither hosts nor our team see your full card details - payment, deposit reservation and payout run technically separated from the listings and messages on the platform.

Every booking is documented end to end via the digital rental contract and the automatically generated invoice. For you, that means no verbal agreements that nobody remembers afterwards, but conditions fixed in writing that you can rely on if in doubt - from the agreed deposit to the booked extras to a cancellation.

Even after the return, you're not on your own: if questions come up around the deposit release or a damage report, you'll find all relevant documents - rental contract, invoice and booking details - in your account at any time, instead of digging through old emails. This traceability isn't an add-on service for us; it's the basis on which both renters and hosts can rely on the same process.

The same principle applies to your personal data: it is used exclusively to handle search, booking, contract and payment, and is not passed on to third parties who have nothing to do with your trip. Who may see which booking details and when is clearly regulated - hosts only see what they actually need for the handover and contract processing, no more and no less.

What matters to us

The values behind
every booking.

Pfotentour grew out of the practical experience of traditional motorhome rental - and that closeness to practice remains the foundation of everything we do. Four values shape every decision, from selecting hosts to designing the booking process. They are not a marketing promise but the yardstick against which we measure every new feature and every new listing - from the first search to the last payout.

Honest instead of fine print

Prices, deposit, cancellation tiers and extras are fixed before booking and written in plain language in the rental contract - no hidden fees that only appear at handover, and no wording you have to read twice to understand.

Dog-friendly is standard, not extra

Where a vehicle is equipped with a dog garage, washable flooring or an outdoor shower, that's a standard detail in the listing - not paid accessories you have to hunt for, but a fixed part of the vehicle description.

Digital, but not anonymous

Search, contract and payment run digitally - the handover stays personal. You get a real briefing on the vehicle, instead of pulling a key out of a box and being left alone with your questions.

Fair for both sides

Deposit, cancellation rules and payout processes are designed to protect renters and hosts alike - trust comes from clear rules, not kind words, and both sides should be able to rely on the same process.
