For a dog, a motorhome is the calmest way to travel: no transport stress, no unfamiliar room, no animal left waiting alone in a hotel. Their own sleeping spot comes along. Here are the vehicles built for it - and what to know before the first trip.
See available motorhomesThe difference rarely lies in the floor plan but in the details. A built-in dog garage at the rear gives the dog a secured place during the drive that does not shift at every braking manoeuvre. A washable vinyl floor takes wet paws and sand without carpet suffering underneath. Fly screens on door and windows let air in and keep insects out while the dog stays in the vehicle.
Then there is the practical kit you only miss once you are out there: an outdoor shower for paws after the beach, a water tank that also covers the bowl, storage for food and a bed, and an awning that casts shade. Which of these a vehicle has is listed individually.
Every vehicle comes from a verified host and is handed over in person. Equipment is in the listing, availability in the calendar - booking and payment run online.
Each host sets the nightly price for their own vehicle, depending on model, equipment and season. A cleaning fee and optional extras usually come on top. You see the total for your dates before booking, with nothing to work out yourself.
There is no surcharge for the dog. Dog-friendliness here is not a paid add-on but the starting point. A deposit is reserved on your card rather than charged; if the vehicle comes back intact, the reservation simply expires.
In a moving motorhome the dog belongs secured - in a crate, behind a barrier, or harnessed in a tested safety harness. An unsecured dog becomes a projectile under hard braking, and in law counts as load that must be restrained.
The second point is heat. A parked motorhome warms up faster than most people expect. Plan breaks in the shade, use fly screens and roof vents for a through-draught, and never leave the dog alone in a closed vehicle in summer. Water belongs within reach, not in storage.
Not every campsite that allows dogs is a good place for one. The gap between tolerated and welcome shows in off-lead meadows, dog showers, and whether the beach next door may be walked on at all in summer.
Equipment varies. Some have a built-in dog garage, others a washable floor and plenty of room. Which features are present is listed individually - you see it before booking, not at handover.
Each host sets that for their vehicle and states it in the listing. You give the number of dogs when booking, and the rental contract records it.
No. There is no surcharge for bringing the dog. A cleaning fee applies regardless of whether a dog travelled.
Within the EU, an EU pet passport, a valid rabies vaccination and a microchip. Some countries additionally require worming treatment or apply breed restrictions - check that for your destination before departure.
The pick-up location is in every listing. The host hands the vehicle over in person, with an introduction to it.
That is what the deposit reserved on your card at booking is for. Normal wear and dog hair fall under the cleaning fee. Larger damage the host settles through their own insurance.
