Most motorhomes stand still for the greater part of the year. Renting the vehicle out during that time often covers insurance, parking and servicing. What to keep in mind - insurance, the rental contract, tax - is set out below.
You create a listing with photos, equipment and pick-up location, and set your price per night. The calendar decides when the vehicle is available - blocked periods stay blocked, including for your own trips. When someone books, you do not have to approve each request: payment and the rental contract run automatically, you get the confirmed booking and only arrange the handover.
The handover happens in person. You show the renter the vehicle, walk through its condition together and hand over the keys. The condition you record becomes part of the rental contract.
You set the nightly price yourself, along with low and high season rates, a cleaning fee and optional extras such as camping furniture or a bike rack. Pfotentour keeps 10 percent of the rental price as commission. There is no base fee, no listing cost and no minimum term.
An example: at 110 euros per night for one week, the rental price is 770 euros. Commission of 77 euros comes off, leaving 693 euros for you. The cleaning fee is charged on top.
Payout happens on the day of pick-up, straight to the bank account you registered. You do not chase the money and you carry no default risk: the renter pays before the trip, not after.
Insuring your motorhome stays your own responsibility. Pfotentour provides no cover and does not act as an insurer. Before your first rental, check with your insurer whether your policy covers hiring the vehicle out to third parties, and on what terms - many private-use policies do not.
What Pfotentour adds is the protection around it: every renter passes an identity check before their first booking, every booking reserves a deposit on their card rather than charging it, and the rental contract records the handover condition, the agreed mileage and your rules.
Every booking generates a rental contract automatically, carrying your vehicle details, the period, the agreed mileage and your own rules - whether smoking is allowed, how many animals may travel. The renter signs it digitally before the booking is confirmed. You receive the same signed copy by email.
So there is no contract to draft and nothing to print. The rules that end up in it are set once per vehicle.
Income from renting out your own motorhome is taxable. In Germany, occasional rental normally falls under other income per section 22 no. 3 of the Income Tax Act, with an exemption limit of 256 euros per year - exceed it and the full amount must be declared, not just the excess.
Anyone renting regularly and with several vehicles eventually becomes a commercial operator, which brings business registration and possibly VAT. Exactly where that line runs depends on the individual case, and the rules differ by country.
This is orientation, not tax advice. Have your own situation checked by a tax adviser.
For occasional rental of a single vehicle, usually not. Once renting is done systematically, continuously and with the intention of making a profit - with several vehicles, for instance - it may count as commercial. Have that boundary checked for your case.
That depends on your own insurance - Pfotentour provides no cover and settles no claims. Smaller amounts are what the deposit reserved on the renter's card is for. The rental contract, with the recorded handover condition, is your evidence.
Yes. The calendar decides when it may be rented. Everything else stays blocked, and your own holiday comes first.
No. Pfotentour lists motorhomes with and without a dog-friendly conversion. A dog garage or a washable floor raises demand in that audience, but neither is required.
Every renter passes an identity check before their first booking. You see who is booking before the handover and arrange place and time directly.
Nothing. There are no listing or base fees. Pfotentour earns only on completed bookings, through the 10 percent commission.
